Riize performs a show just for K-pop fans at the genre's debut in Lollapalooza
Riize debuted the K-pop genre at Lollapalooza in Brazil, performing to a dedicated audience despite competing with a popular headliner.
The South Korean boy band, Riize, took the stage at Lollapalooza Brazil on Saturday night, making history as K-pop was introduced to this edition of the festival. Performing at a prime time slot, they faced tough competition for audience attention from headliner Chappell Roan, who performed simultaneously. The turnout was substantial, comprising mainly devoted K-pop fans, although Riize has not yet reached the same level of fame in the West as more established acts like BTS or Blackpink.
Despite their relative obscurity outside of Korea, Riize aimed to leave a mark during their electrifying performance at the festival. They embraced a dynamic stage presence, stepping away from the highly synchronized K-pop performance style that fans are accustomed to, to present a more festival-appropriate experience. This strategy was to engage and introduce the genre to an audience that may not have had prior exposure to K-pop, expanding their reach in the process.
The band enhanced their performance by incorporating a live band, which is not a common feature in typical K-pop shows, aiming for a more authentic and lively festival atmosphere. As their performance wrapped up, fans rushed to catch the tail end of Chappell Roan's show, reflecting the festival's vibrant and competitive nature, underscoring the growing influence of K-pop in international music scenes like Brazil's.
