Rain continues in Rio Grande do Sul and Inmet publishes warnings for wind risks of up to 100 km/h and hail

Heavy rains are affecting much of Rio Grande do Sul, with warnings issued for strong winds and possible hail.

Rainfall has significantly impacted Rio Grande do Sul this Saturday, especially in the Fronteira Oeste region where Uruguaiana experienced fallen trees and power lines earlier in the day. As of the evening, Porto Alegre and its metropolitan area witnessed a dramatic change in weather, signaling a continued instability into Sunday as well.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued two warnings for the state valid until 10 a.m. on Monday, highlighting a risk of heavy rain accumulation ranging from 30 to 60 millimeters per hour, with potential total daily rainfall reaching up to 100 millimeters. The alerts also warn of winds reaching between 60 to 100 km/h, accompanied by hail, which poses a threat of power outages, damage to crops, and increased flooding risk.

According to Climatempo Meteorologia, a weather front is responsible for these severe conditions, and residents are urged to stay informed and cautious, as the situation may lead to significant disruption and hazards in the region. Emergency services are on alert to respond to any incidents stemming from these weather threats, highlighting the importance of preparedness during extreme weather events.
