On March 21, 2023, approximately a thousand people, predominantly women, gathered in the center of Niamey, the capital of Niger, to protest against a resolution from the European Parliament demanding the immediate release of Mohamed Bazoum, who was deposed in July 2023. The protest was organized by several civil society organizations in response to the parliament's nearly unanimous vote affirming the need for Bazoum's unconditional release. Participants expressed their discontent with foreign interference in Niger's internal affairs and rallied for national sovereignty.
