Brutal downturn for Henriette Jæger: – Very sorry
Henriette Jæger experienced a disappointing performance in the 400-meter final at the Indoor World Championships, finishing seventh after initially showing promise in the semifinals.
Henriette Jæger, a 22-year-old athlete from Norway, faced a disappointing outcome in the final of the 400 meters at the Indoor World Championships. After qualifying as the fastest in the semifinals, Jæger struggled in the final race, clocking in at 51.50 seconds, which placed her last in her heat and earned her a seventh-place finish overall. Post-race, she expressed deep disappointment at her performance, stating, 'I'm very sorry. This is not how it was supposed to go.'
Moreover, Jæger may face disqualification as she stepped outside the designated lane during the race, a situation that remains under review. This adds to her troubles, as she acknowledged running a poor race while being among the favorites heading into the final. Competing in the same heat with strong runners from Haiti, Kenya, and the Czech Republic, Jæger was unable to convert her semifinal success into a podium finish.
In contrast, the Czech Republic's Lurdes Gloria Manuel won the gold medal with a time of 50.76 seconds, while the silver and bronze went to Natalia Bukowiecka from Poland and Lieke Klaver from the Netherlands, respectively. This performance will be a significant lesson for Jæger as she looks to improve and aim for better results in future competitions.
