It's Not a Joke.. Russian Diplomat Warns Against Nuclear Play in the Gulf
A Russian diplomat has warned that attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities pose a significant risk, not only to nations but also to the entire environment, highlighting Moscow's concerns due to its strategic interests in the region.
Vyacheslav Matuzov, a former Russian diplomat, voiced grave concerns regarding the targeting of the Natanz uranium enrichment facility in Iran, emphasizing the potential risks it poses not just to the countries involved but to global environmental stability. He noted that the proximity of the Gulf region to Russia's southern borders, combined with strategic interests, necessitates a cautious watch on the evolving situation by Moscow.
Matuzov underscored the serious implications of nuclear facility attacks, drawing parallels to past catastrophic events such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki, warning that any recurrence of such scenarios could be devastating for the Gulf region, which might not withstand the repercussions. His remarks reflect Moscow’s heightened sensitivity due to its historical experiences with nuclear dangers, particularly referring to the attacks on nuclear facilities in Ukraine’s Zaporizhia.
He further pointed out the ongoing presence of Russian experts at Iranian nuclear sites, especially in Bushehr, suggesting that this involvement complicates Russia's position and increases the stakes should any conflict arise. Matuzov’s comments indicate that Russia is deeply invested in preventing any destabilization that could arise from nuclear escalations in the Gulf, demonstrating both a strategic and humanitarian concern in the geopolitical dynamics of the region.
