Did Tusk Lie? It Concerns the Maternity Ward in Lesko. "Shame"

Prime Minister Tusk addressed the status of the maternity ward in Lesko during a recent interview, denying reports of its closure, which has led to accusations of dishonesty from political opponents.

During an appearance on TVN24's program "Bez Kitu" on March 20, Prime Minister Tusk was questioned about the status of the maternity ward in Lesko. He refuted claims made by the media regarding its closure, asserting instead that it was temporarily inactive due to renovations. Tusk further stated that he had consulted with Health Minister Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda, who assured him that all women would continue to receive full care and safety for childbirth in the region of Podkarpacie.

Following Tusk's comments, government spokespersons echoed his sentiments, emphasizing that the maternity ward's closure is not permanent. However, these claims sparked controversy, especially in light of statements made by opposition politicians, who accused Tusk of lying. Specifically, MP Zawisza from the Razem party took to X platform to label the Prime Minister’s assertions as falsehoods, highlighting the gravity of the situation and calling upon Tusk to be more truthful.

The ongoing dialogue regarding the maternity ward reflects broader concerns about healthcare accessibility in rural areas of Poland, particularly in regions like Podkarpacie. As debates ensue about the legitimacy of the government’s claims, the political ramifications could affect public trust and voter sentiment, especially in the context of upcoming elections where healthcare is expected to be a pivotal issue.
