‘Nuestra América’ convoy sets sail from Puerto Progreso with 30 tons of humanitarian aid for Cuba
A Mexican delegation from the Nuestra América convoy has begun sending humanitarian aid to Cuba with the departure of the first ship from Puerto Progreso.
The Mexican delegation of the Nuestra América convoy commenced its humanitarian mission towards Cuba this Friday, sending off the first vessel from Puerto Progreso in Yucatán. This initiative aims to provide crucial support amidst Cuba's economic deterioration aggravated by the enduring embargo imposed by the United States. In addition to the first ship, preparations for two other vessels were underway but faced delays due to adverse weather conditions on the Caribbean coast.
Adnaan Stumo, the maritime coordinator for the initiative, mentioned that the departure of the two sailboats from Isla Mujeres had to be postponed due to challenging wind conditions, which could affect the timely arrival of the aid. Stumo expressed urgency about delivering supplies, as many people in Cuba are awaiting assistance. The convoy's efforts are a part of a broader solidarity initiative spearheaded by civil organizations that are determined to assist those in need amid the country's ongoing struggles.
This humanitarian mission not only underscores the collaboration among Mexican civil organizations but also highlights Cuba's pressing need for aid in light of its economic turmoil. As the Nuestra América convoy continues its journey, it represents a significant expression of solidarity from Mexico, revealing the humanitarian responses that emerge amidst geopolitical tensions related to the United States' embargo against Cuba.
