No ceremony, limited reserved seating, the role of Giorgetti: Bossi's funeral tomorrow
Umberto Bossi's funeral will be held tomorrow in a simple ceremony without official protocols or political speeches, attended by family and select dignitaries.
The funeral for Umberto Bossi, the founder of the Northern League in Italy, will take place tomorrow at noon at the Abbey of San Giacomo in Pontida, following his passing at the age of 84. The ceremony is described as being understated, with no formal protocol or reserved spaces, apart from a few areas for family and high-ranking officials. The organizers have emphasized that there will be no political speeches on the church steps during the ceremony, aiming to focus on honoring Bossi's memory without political undertones.
The service will be conducted by the abbot of the monastery, Giordano Rota, and will conclude with a choral performance of “Va pensiero” by a choir of alpine troops. The organization of the event has been carried out by activists of the Northern League, adhering to the wishes of Bossi's family and reflecting the close connection he had with prominent political figures, including the Minister of Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti, who was among the first to arrive in Gemonio after Bossi's death, demonstrating his deep respect and friendship with the late leader.
Pontida, a small town with only 3,300 residents, will welcome attendees up to the venue's capacity, ensuring that those who wish to pay their respects can do so. The nature of the event speaks volumes about Bossi's legacy, emphasizing a modest farewell that respects both his personal and political journey in Italy's regional politics.
