Man who assaulted woman in elevator in Guarulhos (SP) is arrested again
A man filmed assaulting his ex-partner in a Guarulhos elevator has been arrested again after a preventive detention was ordered by the court.
Ronaldo Ferreira, 20, was arrested again on Friday night after a São Paulo court ordered his preventive detention following a previous arrest for assaulting his ex-partner in an elevator. The man had initially been captured on tape delivering several punches to the woman inside the elevator in Guarulhos, a city in the Greater São Paulo area. Despite being arrested in the act earlier in the week, he was released shortly thereafter due to the issuance of precautionary measures during his custody hearing.
The case took a turn when the Public Prosecutor's Office requested a new arrest, leading the court to determine that Ferreira should be detained once more for the sake of public safety and to prevent further incidents. The arrest was executed by agents from the Women's Defense Department (DDM) in Guarulhos as they continued to investigate the case. It is noted that the proceedings are currently conducted under judicial secrecy, limiting the available public information.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence in Brazil, as Ferreira's situation reflects larger societal issues related to the treatment of such offenders. The prosecutor, Gustavo Macri Morais, emphasized the necessity of jeopardizing public order as a rationale for this decision, signaling a rigorous approach from the courts towards protecting victims and deterring similar future acts of violence.
