Bane Nor: Gardermoen Line Closed Due to Possible Fire on the Track
The Gardermoen Line was closed following reports of smoke and potential fire from a timber train, prompting an emergency response from police and fire services.
On Saturday afternoon, emergency services requested the closure of tracks on the Gardermoen Line due to reports of smoke emanating from the brakes of a timber train. Olav Nordli, a spokesperson for Bane Nor, confirmed that there was visible smoke, raising concerns about the possibility of fire. At present, the duration of the closure remains uncertain, as officials evaluate the situation more closely.
The police reported that emergency responders were dispatched after receiving a notification about a potential fire in a freight train around 2:12 PM. Operations leader Fredrik Solbakken noted that passing trains had detected what was perceived as flames, leading to heightened safety protocols. The affected train had stopped on the Gardermoen Line between LillestrΓΈm station and Leirsund station.
In an update, it was shared that the train driver was inspecting the train but had not yet found any flames. Despite the absence of visible flames or smoke by the police patrol that arrived on the scene, Solbakken emphasized that the train is several hundred meters long, warranting a careful examination by emergency services to ensure passenger safety and address potential hazards.
