The Government will contribute at least 670 million to avoid a gap in the electrical system
The Spanish government plans to inject at least 670 million euros to sustain the electrical system amid significant tariff cuts for large industries.
The Spanish government has announced plans to allocate a minimum of 670 million euros in funding to avert potential deficits in the electrical system caused by substantial reductions in tariffs for energy-intensive industries. According to the new emergency measure, which comes under the Real Decreto Ley for the Integral Crisis Response Plan related to the Middle East, the Ministry for Ecological Transition will authorize two extraordinary credits, designed to cover the expected shortfall resulting from the cuts. Specifically, this funding will consist of 220 million euros targeted at offsetting the 80% decrease in large industrial tariffs and 450 million euros aimed at compensating for the suspension of the 7% generation tax for the year 2026.
