After an hour of 'battle', fishermen catch a pirarucu over two meters and nearly 100 kg in a river in the interior of SP

Fishermen in Cardoso, SP, successfully captured a giant pirarucu weighing nearly 100 kg after a prolonged struggle.

In Cardoso, São Paulo, a group of fishermen engaged in a one-hour battle to haul a massive pirarucu fish out of the Rio Marinheiro. The teamwork involved three boats and three fishermen on each, showcasing patience and collaboration in response to the fish's size and strength. The captured fish measured an impressive 2.15 meters long and weighed approximately 98 kg, leaving even seasoned fishermen astonished at its size.

Professional fisherman Izael Gonçalves de Moraes Junior, who has a decade of experience, expressed extreme joy upon catching the fish. After the arduous process of removing the scales and skeleton, the fishermen estimated that the fish yielded around 60 kg of meat, further enhancing the significance of their catch in terms of sustenance and local consumption.

Interestingly, while this catch garnered attention for its sheer size, it is worth noting that the pirarucu is not a native species in the rivers of São Paulo; its presence is deemed invasive. This raises concerns about ecological impacts and the complex relationship between local wildlife and introduced species within Brazil's diverse ecosystems.
