SV's Bergstø: – We will address the challenges we face ourselves

Bergstø emphasized the need for the Socialist Left Party (SV) to tackle its own challenges and re-engage with voters during its party meeting.

During the party's national board meeting, Bergstø outlined a vision for the Socialist Left Party (SV) to not only challenge other political parties but also to confront its own internal issues. She noted the importance of becoming a more proactive left-wing political force, especially in the face of growing influence from the Progress Party (Frp) and the broader right side of the political spectrum in Norway. Bergstø acknowledged past voter feedback and highlighted the need for SV to better communicate its values and reasons for people to support the party.

Bergstø pointed out that the left-leaning coalition had weakened, with parties pulling in different directions, causing SV to lose its position as a crucial negotiating partner in securing cohesive governance in the country. In addressing these challenges, she emphasized the need to win back voters who had previously supported SV and criticized the Labour Party (Arbeiderpartiet) for shifting rightward in its policies, particularly highlighting their tougher approach on labor issues and their socially regressive cuts.

Moreover, environmental politics were a significant focus of her speech, with Bergstø taking aim at potential allies like the Red Party (Rødt) for their stances on offshore wind energy. This indicates a broader concern within the left regarding how they can unite and push forward a cohesive agenda that addresses voters' needs and the pressing issue of climate change amidst political fragmentation and competition from the right.
