Mother who traveled to Egypt to recover son she hasn't seen in 3 years offers reward for information
Karin Rachel Aranha Toledo is offering a reward of 10,000 Egyptian pounds for information on her son Adam, who was taken to Egypt by his father without her permission in 2022.
Karin Rachel Aranha Toledo, a Brazilian mother, has resorted to offering a reward of 10,000 Egyptian pounds for information about her son, Adam, who was taken to Egypt by his father in 2022 without her consent. For three years, Karin has been unable to see her son despite having won custody in Egypt, where she currently lives. This desperate measure comes after previous attempts to locate her son proved unsuccessful.
The reward she has set is more than the minimum wage in Egypt, which stands at 7,000 Egyptian pounds, and is approximately equivalent to R$ 1,000. The announcement of the reward was made on Friday, and it quickly drew attention, with a follower on social media even offering to help fund the reward. The urgency of her plea highlights the emotional and legal complexities that international custody disputes can involve, especially when children are taken across borders.
In her ongoing fight, Karin's legal team has also requested that federal authorities in São Paulo access the phone, electronic, and email communications of Ahmed Tarek Mohamed Faiz Abedelkaleg, Adam's father, to track his whereabouts. As of now, the Brazilian courts have yet to make a decision regarding this request. The situation underscores the challenges of enforcing custody laws internationally and raises broader questions about the rights of parents in cross-border custody cases.
