Ukrainian delegation arrives in the US to meet with Witkoff and Kushner
A Ukrainian delegation is set to meet with US representatives to discuss peace negotiations amidst ongoing conflicts.
A delegation from Ukraine has arrived in the United States consisting of high-ranking officials including Rustem Umerov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Presidential Office, Serhiy Kyslytsia, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, and Davyd Arahamia, leader of the Servant of the People party. They are scheduled to engage in discussions with representatives of the US, including Steve Witkoff, the White House special envoy, and Jared Kushner, a close adviser and son-in-law of former President Donald Trump, concerning peace initiatives related to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The meeting, which is set for March 21 in Miami, aims to address key issues regarding peace negotiations. This follow-up to previous discussions emphasizes the commitment from both sides to explore paths toward ending the war that has drastically affected Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed high hopes for the outcomes of this visit, seeing it as an opportunity to ready Ukrainian interests and strategies for an upcoming trilateral meeting.
Zelensky has specifically indicated that only a political group will participate in the upcoming negotiations in the US geared toward concluding the war, which underscores the importance of political vs. military solutions. Russia's involvement and perspective in these discussions remain unclear; however, the focus from Ukraine is firmly planted on engaging with US leaders to secure favorable terms for peace and restoration of sovereignty.
