Fuels: Do energy savings certificates increase the rise in pump prices?
The rise in fuel prices is being exacerbated by energy savings certificates, which are blamed for contributing to rising costs at the pump amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Fuel prices have surged, reaching nearly 2 euros per liter, as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East drives up crude oil prices. In response to this alarming trend, the French government has ruled out any reduction in taxes to alleviate consumer costs. Instead, the spotlight has turned to the energy savings certificates (CEE), a system designed to promote energy efficiency in France, which some groups argue is discreetly inflating the price of fuel. According to the association '40 millions d'automobilistes', the cost attributable to CEE is approximately 17 cents per liter of SP95-E10 gasoline priced at 2 euros.
