How much will drivers save? The Government estimates 16 euros less for the gasoline tank

The Spanish Government estimates that drivers will save an average of 16 euros per fuel tank due to new tax reductions on gasoline and diesel.

The Spanish Government has announced a new economic relief package aimed at mitigating the financial impact of the ongoing conflict in Iran, which includes tax reductions on fuels. The Ministry of Finance estimates that these measures will lead to savings of up to 29 cents per liter for 95 octane gasoline and 23 cents for diesel. This calculation is based on fuel prices recorded on March 19, when 95 octane gasoline was around 1.8 euros per liter, and diesel was approximately 1.9 euros.

The relief package, approved just before this announcement, features a significant reduction in VAT on fuels from 21% to 10%, alongside a decreased hydrocarbon tax. According to Maria Jesus Montero, the Minister of Finance, these changes will lower the price of 95 octane gasoline to about 1.51 euros per liter. The total financial aid program is valued at over 5 billion euros, indicating the government's commitment to supporting consumers amidst rising energy costs influenced by international conflicts.

These tax relief measures reflect the Spanish government's proactive response to external economic pressures and aim to provide immediate financial relief to drivers and households. As energy prices continue to be affected by the ongoing situation in Iran and other geopolitical factors, such initiatives are crucial for helping citizens manage their economic burdens in the short term, while also raising questions about the longer-term energy strategy and sustainability policies in Spain.
