Rafael Germano Gil dos Santos, identified as one of the most wanted leaders of a criminal faction in Mato Grosso, was arrested in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, during a police operation named Patrinus Malus. This operation, which primarily focused on investigating the supply and distribution of drugs in Cuiabá, unexpectedly led to Santos' arrest while he was at the residence of another criminal figure. Santos, who has three prior convictions amounting to 35 years of prison time, was not a direct target of this operation, highlighting the complexities of police work in combating organized crime.

The operation resulted in the arrest of eight other suspects in Cuiabá, with police having to forcibly enter a home to execute their search warrants. The investigation is a continuation of efforts that began the previous year, revealing a network of leaders operating from within prisons and managing drug distribution across specific locations. This illustrates the challenges law enforcement agencies face when tackling entrenched criminal organizations that have sophisticated operations.

Following the arrests, a total of 20 judicial orders were executed as part of this operation.
