Sanusi, Bayero, Kwankwaso hold separate Eid prayers
Kano, Nigeria, experienced significant division during Eid-el-Fitr with three separate prayers led by prominent leaders, reflecting ongoing political and traditional fracturing.
In an unprecedented display of division among Kano's traditional and political leadership, three separate Eid-el-Fitr prayers were held in the state. The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, led the first prayer at Kofar Mata Eid Ground, attended by notable government officials. His sermon accentuated themes of unity, peace, and lawfulness, echoing the need for collective stability among the citizens.
Following this, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, held a distinct prayer at Nasarawa Palace, with a sermon advocating for peace and unity. This separate gathering indicated not only a departure from customary practices but also hinted at deeper schisms within Kanoβs political and tribal frameworks. The spokesperson for Bayero highlighted the importance of community support and stability in his remarks.
The involvement of prominent political figures, including Governor Abba Yusuf, signifies that the implications of these divided prayers extend beyond religious observance; they lay bare the existing rifts among influential leaders. This situation raises concerns about the future of cooperation in governance and the social fabric of Kano, calling for urgent dialogue and reconciliation among the stakeholders involved.
