Toco Toucan Rescued with Broken Beak After Being Hit by Car in Jundiaí

A young toco toucan was rescued after being hit by a car in Jundiaí, Brazil, and is receiving treatment for a broken beak.

On Thursday afternoon, a young toco toucan was hit by a car on Avenida Jundiaí in the center of Jundiaí, São Paulo, and subsequently rescued. The bird suffered a fracture at the tip of its beak and is currently being cared for at the Associação Mata Ciliar, where it is being monitored for its injuries.

The veterinary team at the Centro Jaguaretê, part of Mata Ciliar’s hospital, is assessing the bird's condition and determining the next steps in its treatment. Safety concerns surrounding wildlife and vehicle collisions were highlighted, as this is not an isolated incident; the association has reported a recurring issue with similar accidents involving birds, particularly young ones that are learning to fly.

As the toucan undergoes medical attention and recovery, the hope is that it can eventually be rehabilitated and returned to its natural habitat. The association emphasizes the need for awareness regarding vehicle interactions with wildlife, aiming to reduce future incidents of this nature.
