Colonel Sylvio Guerra will be the new secretary of the PM of RJ
Colonel Sylvio Guerra has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Military Police in Rio de Janeiro, succeeding Colonel Marcelo Menezes.
The police forces in Rio de Janeiro, comprising both the Military and Civil Police, have newly appointed commanders. Colonel Sylvio Guerra is set to take the reins at the PM (Military Police), while Delegate Delmir Gouveia will head the Civil Police. Their appointments fill the vacancies left by Colonel Marcelo Menezes and Delegate Felipe Curi, both of whom vacated their positions to pursue candidacies in the upcoming elections. This move indicates a significant shift within the local law enforcement leadership as elections approach.
Sylvio Guerra was appointed during a meeting at Palácio Guanabara on a Friday afternoon, facilitated by the Secretary of Security, Victor César dos Santos, who introduced him to Governor Cláudio Castro. Interestingly, the governor is anticipated to leave his position in the coming days, suggesting that the timing of these appointments is critical as the political landscape in Rio de Janeiro will soon change. Until his recent appointment, Guerra was serving as the Undersecretary in the Integrated Command and Control Center (CICC).
Guerra brings a wealth of experience to his new role; he previously served at the Justice Court of the State of Rio de Janeiro a decade ago before rising through the ranks to command significant police battalions. His extensive background in law enforcement positions him to tackle the pressing issues facing the Military Police in the region, especially as the state grapples with ongoing security challenges. His appointment signals a continued focus on leadership stability within the police during a politically turbulent period for the state.
