50 years since the coup d'état: the second edition of the Human Rights Book Fair is held with international guests
The Human Rights Book Fair is taking place at the ex-ESMA in Argentina, featuring over 120 publishers and discussions led by notable authors, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1976 coup.
This week marks the second edition of the Human Rights Book Fair, titled 'Rights in Letters', hosted at the Espacio Memoria y Derechos Humanos, formerly the ex-ESMA. The event runs from today until Sunday, offering free admission to attendees. This year's fair is especially significant as it coincides with the upcoming 50th anniversary of the 1976 coup d'état in Argentina, which heralded a period of military dictatorship that profoundly affected the nation's history.
The fair features an array of activities designed to engage the public in discussions about memory, history, and journalism. Renowned figures such as Paco Ignacio Taibo II and María Teresa Andruetto are scheduled to lead discussions and book presentations. In total, more than 120 publishers are participating, reflecting a collective commitment to explore human rights issues and ensure the memories of those affected by the dictatorship are honored and preserved.
In addition to book presentations, the fair includes workshops, historical tours, and cultural exhibits designed to educate attendees about the events surrounding the military regime and promote human rights awareness. This initiative not only fosters a dialogue about past injustices but also reinforces Argentina's dedication to safeguarding human rights in the future, serving as a reminder of the importance of memory in a democratic society.
