Pharmacist arrested on suspicion of selling psychiatric and weight loss drugs without a prescription in Bragança Paulista

A pharmacist in Bragança Paulista, Brazil, has been arrested for allegedly selling psychiatric and weight loss medications without prescriptions and violating health regulations.

A 53-year-old pharmacist in Bragança Paulista, São Paulo, was arrested on Friday, October 20, after being caught selling psychiatric and weight loss medications without a medical prescription. The arrest took place during the execution of search and seizure warrants, where police discovered that the pharmacist was also selling products prohibited by Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and was administering injectable medications outside of technical regulations.

The pharmacy, located in the Jardim São Lourenço neighborhood and owned by the suspect, was the primary target of the police operation. Officials from the Civil Police and the Health Surveillance Agency found significant irregularities during their inspection and confiscated over 150 boxes of various medications. This incident raises concerns about the safety and legality of pharmaceutical practices in Brazil, particularly regarding the potential risks to public health posed by unregulated and unauthorized sales of drugs.

Moreover, this is not the first time the pharmacist has faced legal trouble; he was previously arrested in 2020 for being involved in the sale of anabolic steroids. After this latest incident, he appeared before a custody hearing where the justice system upheld his detention, reflecting the seriousness of the charges against him and the ongoing efforts in Brazil to combat illegal pharmaceutical activities that threaten consumer safety.
