Israel will enhance its weapons amid Operation Epic Fury, making its aircraft more lethal

Israel is advancing its military capabilities by developing laser weapon systems for its Air Force amidst ongoing operations with the U.S.

In recent developments, Israeli defense company Elbit Systems has announced the creation of laser weapon systems to be installed on combat aircraft and helicopters for the Israeli Air Force. This initiative is part of Israel's efforts to bolster its military capabilities as it engages in Operation Epic Fury, executed in collaboration with the United States. The advancements also aim to optimize efficiency and increase operational range, particularly in addressing aerial threats.

Israel currently utilizes a sophisticated laser defense system known as Iron Beam, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, which became operational by the end of 2025. This system employs high-powered lasers ranging from 10 to 100 kilowatts to intercept various threats, including missiles and drones, at distances of up to ten kilometers. However, the effectiveness of such systems can be hindered by environmental conditions like weather, dust, and ground turbulence, which necessitate the improvements outlined in Elbit's current project.

Bezhalel Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems, emphasized that operating above the clouds would allow their systems to engage targets from greater distances and improve efficacy by neutralizing threats located far from Israelโ€™s borders. This development not only reinforces Israel's defensive capabilities but also reflects a significant trend in modern warfare towards adopting advanced technological solutions to address emerging combat challenges.
