HU: Incomprehensibly Expensive Whiskey to Alko
Alko will sell an exceptionally expensive bottle of Glenfarclas whiskey for 23,498 euros next week.
Alko, Finland's state-owned alcoholic beverage retailer, is introducing an extraordinarily costly bottle of Glenfarclas whiskey priced at 23,498 euros. This rare whiskey has been aged for 70 years and distilled on November 20, 1953, with a limited release of only 262 bottles, one of which is set to be sold in Finland. Markku Ristevirta, an entrepreneur from the importing company Juomatalo Pikkulintu, stated that this could be one of the most expensive, if not the very most expensive product available at Alko.
The whiskey is expected to be available in Alko's online store starting next Monday. Ristevirta, who has not tasted the whiskey himself, noted the difficulty of acquiring such an exclusive product, indicating that it is unlikely further bottles will be made available after this single unit. With an alcohol content of 42.9%, the whiskey promises intricate flavors, including dark chocolate, dried fruits soaked in sherry, roasted coffee, and syrupy toffee, setting high expectations for potential buyers and whiskey enthusiasts alike.
The Glenfarclas Distillery, recognized for its private ownership, is among the few remaining distilleries in Scotland that maintains its independence. This rich heritage and exclusivity make their products highly sought after, further accentuating the unique position of this particular offering in the market. As a piece of distilled history, the sale of this whiskey not only caters to aficionados but also highlights the evolving landscape of luxury spirits in Finland.
