The investigation began following an anonymous tip made to the Brazilian Federal Hotline (Disque 100) on December 8, 2025. In response to the report, local police conducted a search and seizure operation at the man's residence on September 20, retrieving his mobile phone for further examination.

During the investigation, police traced back the origins of the sticker sent in the group chat, which included graphic images involving a child. The revelation of this disturbing content spurred a member of the group to document the evidence by taking a screenshot and formally reporting it to authorities.
