Missing Timesheets: World Championship Director Paid After Seven Years

Stian Grimseth, director of the 2025 weightlifting World Championship, is receiving nearly one million kroner for work dating back up to seven years due to a lack of documented hours.

Stian Grimseth, a prominent figure in Norwegian weightlifting, has been awarded a payment of nearly one million kroner for work he allegedly carried out between 2019 and 2022, prior to the 2025 World Championship hosted in Førde. This payment, revealed through board meeting minutes obtained by VG, comes despite the absence of documented timesheets for the claimed work period. The recent digital board meeting held by the organization 'VM Vektløfting 2025 AS' confirmed that Grimseth will also receive a monthly salary until June 2026, amounting to 156,999 kroner.

The decision to grant Grimseth these payments follows the 2022 awarding of the championship to Førde, which took place from October 2 to 11, 2025, and left behind ten million kroner in the organization's cash reserves. The funds are set to be returned to the sport, further emphasizing the financial implications of this situation. The lack of proper documentation for Grimseth's claims raises concerns about fiscal accountability within the organizational framework of sports events, especially regarding how funds are allocated and justified.

As this issue comes to light, questions are being raised about the governance and oversight of the championship organization. Proper record-keeping and transparency in financial dealings are crucial for maintaining trust in sports administration. This incident could lead to greater scrutiny of funding practices in Norwegian sports and potentially prompt calls for reforms aimed at enhancing accountability and preventing similar occurrences in the future.
