Youths in Osun State have been urged by experts to resist political manipulation that could lead to further violence amid rising tensions from boundary disputes among local communities.
In Osun State, youths from the communities of Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin-Osun have been cautioned against falling prey to politicians seeking to exploit an increase in political activities for their own ends. During a three-day training focused on conflict resolution and civic advocacy held in Osogbo, experts emphasized the importance of non-violent communication and the need for young people to act wisely in the face of potential provocation. The workshop was organized by Future Builders Initiative in collaboration with other advocacy groups and received support from the German Federal Foreign Office.
The backdrop to this warning is a history of violent clashes among these communities, largely driven by ongoing boundary disputes that have recently escalated. Previous altercations have resulted in fatalities and destruction of property, underscoring the volatility of the situation.
