Official: Matas Vareika returns to Žalgiris

Matas Vareika, previously a key player for FK Žalgiris, is returning to the team after gaining experience at other clubs, including a vice-champion title with Kauno Hegelmann.

Matas Vareika, a well-known figure in the FK Žalgiris community, is set to return to the club where he made a significant impact between 2019 and 2023. During his initial time with Žalgiris, he played in 66 A league matches, scored 15 goals, and celebrated three Lithuanian championship titles and two Super Cups. His performances established him as a valuable player in the team and a fan favorite.

After his successful spell at Žalgiris, Vareika sought to broaden his experience playing for other clubs. In the 2024 season, he represented Kauno rajono Hegelmann, where he helped the team secure the Lithuanian vice-champion title. Vareika continued to develop his skills and was later signed by Armenian club Pyunik at the beginning of 2025, which broadened his professional horizon.

In March 2024, Matas made his debut for the national team of Lithuania, marking an important milestone in his career. His return to FK Žalgiris is not just a reunion with the team, but also a chance for Vareika to play a pivotal role and contribute to the team's success in both domestic and international competitions moving forward.
