Andres Sutt, the Estonian Minister of Energy and Environment from the Reform Party, has highlighted the growing share of renewable energy in electricity consumption in Estonia. However, he points out that the country continues to import more energy than it exports. To address this imbalance, Sutt advocates for the expansion of production capacities, emphasizing the urgent need to increase local energy generation through renewable sources.

Sutt identifies the development of new onshore wind farms as the most favorable solution to this energy challenge. He suggests that ideally, Estonia should aim to add between 100 to 110 new wind turbines. This expansion is seen as essential for decreasing reliance on imported energy and enhancing the country's energy security, while also contributing to the country's climate goals by increasing the share of renewables in the energy mix.
