Government projects 3,000 houses a year with new urgent law to encourage construction and donation of housing

The Ecuadorian government plans to construct 3,000 houses annually through a new law aimed at promoting housing donation and construction.

The Ecuadorian government is implementing an urgent law designed to stimulate the construction and donation of housing, projecting an annual output of 3,000 homes. President Daniel Noboa highlighted this initiative during a statement on March 20, 2026, indicating that sufficient budget allocation is key to achieving this target. He emphasized that these houses would provide shelter for 3,000 families, reflecting a promise to address housing needs in the country.

The president discussed how increasing revenue through oil exports could enhance the state budget, thereby allowing more resources to be allocated to tax deductions that potentially benefit housing construction. Noboa's administration believes that raising the tax deduction limits will directly correlate to an increase in the number of houses constructed, thus contributing to alleviating the existing housing deficit in Ecuador.

The law reform regarding the Internal Tax Regime was sent to the National Assembly on March 9, and it aims to incentivize the construction of social interest housing. This initiative not only seeks to stimulate the construction sector but also aims to provide families with accessible housing, thereby improving living conditions and addressing urgent housing shortages across Ecuador.
