Mass accident on the highway near Kaunas: 6 cars collided, there are injuries

A multi-vehicle accident occurred on the Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipeda highway involving six cars, resulting in injuries.

On March 20, a serious multi-vehicle accident occurred on the A1 highway near Biruliškiai village, Kaunas district, involving six vehicles. The General Emergency Center reported that there were indeed injuries among those involved in the collision. Emergency services, including police officers, firefighters, and paramedics, quickly rushed to the scene to assist the injured individuals and to clear the area for continued traffic flow.

According to reports from the Fire and Rescue Department's Situational Coordination Division, rescuers managed to extract two individuals from the wreckage of the cars, passing them on to medical personnel for further treatment. One person was known to be trapped in a vehicle and required specialized rescue equipment for a safe extraction. This highlights the significant role of emergency responders in managing such complex and dangerous situations following road accidents.

The accident severely disrupted traffic heading towards Klaipeda, with navigation application Waze indicating that a traffic jam formed in the area where the collision took place. More than half an hour after the incident, the congestion continued to increase, reflecting the ongoing impact of the accident on local commuters and transportation.
