Returned Smile: Who is Entitled to Compensation for Dental Prosthetics
Lithuania's health insurance fund now compensates dental prosthetics for various demographic groups, addressing both medical and social issues related to tooth loss.
Tooth loss presents not only medical concerns but also emotional and social challenges for many individuals in Lithuania. People suffering from chewing function impairments often avoid smiling and experience daily discomfort due to a lack of financial means for dental prosthetics. According to Jurgita GrigarienΔ from the State Health Insurance Fund, the introduction of compensation for dental prosthetic services enhances accessibility and aids in reducing health disparities among the population.
Compensation for dental prosthetics is now available to residents reaching retirement age, children under 18, individuals with disabilities, and patients treated for oral, facial, and jaw cancers. The health insurance fund covers expenses up to a specified limit, which is reimbursed to the treatment facility that provides the dental services. As such, this initiative is expected to improve the quality of life for many individuals who had previously faced barriers to dental care.
Currently, reimbursement for dental prosthetic costs is capped at β¬670.39 for adults and β¬342.13 for children, with higher compensation amounts for more complex prosthetics. This framework not only alleviates the financial burden on eligible individuals but also signifies a step forward in public health initiatives aimed at addressing the disparities in dental health access and care in Lithuania.
