DZS: Almost 30% of people at risk of poverty, hardest hit in Pannonian Croatia
In Croatia, nearly 30% of people are at risk of poverty, particularly in the Pannonian region, as reported by the State Bureau of Statistics (DZS).
The State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) in Croatia has reported concerning figures on poverty for 2025, indicating that the poverty risk rate stands at 19.5%. For households comprising two adults and two children under 14, the annual poverty threshold is set at €18,972. The survey indicates that 20.7% of individuals are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, with 2% experiencing severe material and social deprivation. For single-person households, the poverty threshold for 2025 is €9,034, highlighting the financial struggles that many families face.
Particularly alarming are the statistics from the Pannonian region, where the risk of poverty is notably higher compared to other areas of Croatia. The DZS reports that the poverty risk rate in Pannonian Croatia reached a staggering 28.6% in 2025, significantly exceeding that of the Adriatic region at 19% and the City of Zagreb at 11.4%. Furthermore, in Pannonian Croatia, 30% of surveyed individuals fall under the poverty risk category, indicating a pressing socio-economic issue that needs immediate attention from policy makers and social services.
These figures paint a bleak picture of economic stability in Croatia, particularly for vulnerable populations in the Pannonian region. With an average annual disposable income per household reported at €27,586, the challenges faced by those at risk paint a stark contrast to the overall averages. The need for targeted social policies and community support programs is crucial to address these disparities and aid those who are most affected.
