Most Americans expect Trump to send boots on the ground in Iran — but majority oppose it: Poll

A majority of Americans oppose sending U.S. ground troops into Iran, despite anticipating such an action by President Trump, according to a new poll.

According to a recent national poll by Reuters/Ipsos, nearly two-thirds of Americans believe that President Donald Trump may send U.S. ground troops into combat against Iran. This sentiment comes amid ongoing U.S. and Israeli military action against Iranian targets, which is entering its third week. While many are expecting this military escalation, there is a significant opposition to the idea, indicating a complex view among American citizens regarding military intervention overseas.

The survey revealed that 55% of Americans do not support sending ground troops into Iran, despite the expectation of military involvement. A mere 7% of respondents expressed support for a large-scale deployment of American ground forces, while 34% indicated they would favor a more limited incursion involving special forces. This division highlights a public reluctance to engage in larger military operations, aligning with historical trends of caution regarding foreign military engagements.

Among Republicans surveyed, views were more supportive of ground troop involvement, with 14% backing a large-scale operation and 63% favoring limited special forces engagements. Despite this, 21% of Republican respondents also opposed sending ground troops. The results illustrate a nuanced Republican stance on military intervention that may reflect internal party divisions regarding Trump's military strategy and broader foreign policy decisions, as public opinion plays a crucial role in shaping these policies.
