Alligator spotted roaming in front of a condominium in Aracaju

An alligator was caught on security cameras wandering near the entrance of a condominium in the Aruana neighborhood of Aracaju, Brazil.

In a bizarre incident caught on security cameras, an alligator was spotted roaming close to the entrance of a condominium in the Aruana neighborhood of Aracaju. The footage of the alligator's stroll was released on the morning of Friday, October 20. This sighting occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, October 17, marking the second instance of the alligator being seen in the same area; the first sighting took place in April of the previous year following heavy rainfall.

According to Arles Marques, the condominium supervisor, the alligator often resides in a canal situated in front of the residential complex. While the creature is simply navigating its natural habitat, the management of the condominium expressed significant concern over its proximity to residential areas. Marques highlighted the risks, particularly regarding children and pets, emphasizing their fears that the alligator might enter the condominium premises, which would pose a danger to residents.

In light of the repeated sightings, environmental agency Adema urges local residents not to handle or feed wildlife. They have made available a rescue team that can be contacted through WhatsApp for support on all days from 8 am to 1 pm. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and to contact authorities if they encounter such wildlife again within residential areas, which raises questions about human-wildlife interactions in urban settings.
