The Reykjavík City Council has introduced a proposal aimed at synchronizing the construction of infrastructure, such as schools and roads, with residential housing developments in Hallahverfi, an area within the Úlfarsárdal valley. At a presentation concerning housing issues, the chair of the working group emphasized the importance of building essential services in tandem with new homes to foster a well-integrated neighborhood.

The design proposition, created by Nordic Office of Architecture in collaboration with Eflu and Danish landscape architects SLA, focuses on developing Hallahverfi into a community that respects and blends with its natural surroundings. Proposed features include two school districts that will also serve the anticipated growth in the adjacent area near Lake Leirtjörn. Emphasizing sustainable transportation, the plan prioritizes pedestrian and cycling access, while also ensuring public transport is readily available and well-defined within the design framework.

This initiative reflects a growing awareness of the need for thoughtful urban planning that balances living spaces with essential services, which is crucial for the continued expansion of Reykjavík. The city aims to create livable communities where residents can easily access schools, recreational areas, and public transport, ultimately enhancing the quality of life and establishing a model for future urban development.
