Pittsburgh Public Schools moves to remote learning ahead of NFL Draft

Pittsburgh Public Schools will implement remote learning from April 22-24 during the NFL Draft to manage the influx of visitors and ensure educational continuity.

Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) has announced a shift to remote learning from April 22-24 to accommodate the anticipated surge of visitors during the 2026 NFL Draft, which the city is set to host. This decision was communicated to staff and students in order to allow families to navigate the expected logistical challenges posed by the large number of attendees and events surrounding the draft.

Superintendent Dr. Wayne N. Walters emphasized that while maintaining educational continuity is a primary goal, the unusual circumstances necessitate this change in teaching method. The move to asynchronous learning is intended to ensure that academic support remains available to students even as the city becomes a hub of activity during the draft, minimizing disruptions to their education.

Additionally, PPS has rescheduled state assessment exams that were originally planned for the days of the draft, with new dates set for April 20-21 and April 28-May 4. This rescheduling reflects the district's commitment to balancing the demands of the NFL Draft with the academic needs of its students, ensuring that their educational requirements are met amidst the significant citywide event.
