Stories about Women Who Were Forced to Become Strong

A new book series titled 'A Woman's Story' has been launched, focusing on women's inner journeys and life-changing moments.

A new book series called 'A Woman's Story' has been initiated by the publishing house Hea Lugu, dedicated to exploring the deep inner journeys and pivotal moments in women's lives. The series draws inspiration from Paulo Coelho's idea that behind every strong individual is a story that left them no choice but to adapt and grow. This collection features works from both Estonian and international authors, encompassing contemporary literature as well as historically significant texts, all designed to shed light on the struggles and triumphs of women.

The visual design of the series, crafted by Mai Grepp, is based on the concept of layering, representing the various layers a strong woman embraces while also revealing the cracks beneath. Upcoming titles in the collection include works like Betti Alver's 'Wind Lover,' Moa Herngren's 'Mother of Man,' and Henrika de Kermadec's 'Shameless', which promise to further delve into the complexities of women's experiences and narratives.

Among the first titles in this new series is 'Sunbirds,' the debut novel by Scottish author Penelope Slocombe. The novel tells the story of Anne, whose life is thrown into disarray after her son Torran goes missing. Slocombe's intention with the book is to depict how grief can propel individuals toward transformation, showcasing a character whose journey through loss leads her to emerge as the person she was meant to be, thus encapsulating the very essence of what the series aims to portray about the strength found within women’s stories.
