One donor's blood can be separated into various components such as red blood cells, plasma, and platelets, which can assist multiple patients. The center emphasizes the importance of continual replenishment of blood supplies since components like platelets have a very short shelf life, lasting only a few days. This highlights the ongoing need for donor participation to ensure adequate supplies.

Dr. Diana Remeikienė, the head of the Blood Center at Kaunas Clinics, explains that while there may be sufficient platelets at one moment, situations can rapidly change, necessitating a steady flow of donations. The clinics are currently prioritizing donors with O positive, A positive, and A negative blood types, while also welcoming individuals from other blood groups to contribute.

The donation process is described as safe and quick, yet the impact of each blood donation is immensely significant, directly contributing to life-saving treatments. Dr. Remeikienė stresses that without donor assistance, lifesaving medical treatments in hospitals could be halted, underscoring the broader implications of community involvement in blood donation efforts during critical times.
