'Stay away from social media and...', Nainital HC reprimands 'Mohammad Deepak'
The Nainital High Court has denied relief to Mohammad Deepak Kumar amid ongoing religious tensions in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, advising him to stay off social media and cooperate with police investigations.
In the midst of a religious controversy in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, Mohammad Deepak Kumar has found himself at the center of a legal battle as the Nainital High Court refused to grant him any immediate relief. Justice Rakesh Thapliyal directed Deepak to refrain from engaging in unnecessary activities on social media and to fully cooperate with the ongoing police investigation. This follow-up hearing underscores the court's concern over the potential for social media to exacerbate tensions in an already volatile situation.
During the proceedings, Deepak Kumar expressed frustration over the police's inaction regarding the charges filed against him, indicating that rather than taking definitive steps against those involved, the police have registered a case against unidentified individuals, leaving him feeling vulnerable. He highlighted that despite providing names of those involved in the incident, no substantial action was taken against them, prompting him to seek assurances for his family's safety and a more proactive response from law enforcement.
In response, the government clarified to the court that Deepak was present during the incident to help pacify the crowd but was implicated in skirmishes with the mob. Consequently, the police have filed charges against him and 22 others, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing. The situation remains precarious as the court navigates the delicate balance between upholding justice and maintaining public order in a community grappling with rising tensions.
