War wounds on petrol! Premium petrol increased by 2.30 rupees per liter, no change in normal rates

The price of premium petrol in India has been raised by 2.30 rupees per liter amid rising crude oil prices and conflict in the Middle East, while normal petrol prices remain unchanged.

In response to escalating tensions in the Middle East and an increase in crude oil prices, India has announced a rise in premium petrol prices by 2 to 2.30 rupees per liter. This price adjustment will take effect from March 20, 2023. Notably, the increase in premium petrol prices affects branded fuels such as HPCL's Power Petrol and IOCL's XP95, which are sought after for their enhanced engine performance and better mileage.

As a result of this adjustment, the price of premium petrol in New Delhi will range between 107 to 112.30 rupees per liter, while in Mumbai it will be between 115 to 120.30 rupees per liter, and in Chennai the cost will vary from 112 to 117.30 rupees per liter. Interestingly, there has been no change in the rates of normal petrol and diesel, maintaining the price of one liter of petrol at 94.77 rupees and diesel at 87.67 rupees per liter in New Delhi. In Mumbai, the rate for one liter of petrol is held at 103.50 rupees.

This price rise reflects the interplay of global factors affecting local markets, particularly as the implications may lead to increased transportation costs and affect consumers broadly. Despite the upward trend for premium options, the stability in normal petrol prices may offer some relief to consumers amidst rising oil prices, although future adjustments could still influence the overall expenditure of Indian motorists and the economy at large.
