A lot of bonfires by the water will focus on endangered fjords
A series of bonfires are being lit across Isefjord to raise awareness about the threatened fjords in the region.
Tonight, the association Red Isefjord, along with citizens, associations, and schools, will light a series of bonfires from Nykøbing Sjælland to Holbæk and from Hornsherred to Roskilde. The event aims to raise awareness about the threats facing the fjords and demonstrate the strong local engagement towards reversing the current trends. Torben Justesen, chairperson of Red Isefjord, emphasized the community's desire to draw attention to this important environmental issue.
The bonfires will be lit simultaneously at 7:00 PM, providing a platform for local communities to gather around each fire for short speeches, music, communal singing, and storytelling about the history, present, and future of the fjords. This initiative is not only meant to celebrate local culture but also to educate participants about the ecological challenges that the fjords are facing, encouraging active participation in conservation efforts.
The Red Isefjord association was established last year specifically to protect and restore the marine environment within the Isefjord system. Their work reflects a growing awareness in Denmark about the necessity of sustainable practices and the protection of natural resources. By organizing events like the bonfire gathering, they aim to mobilize community action and generate broader public interest in safeguarding the health of these vital ecosystems.
