The Českomoravská Metro Station Reopened After More Than a Year, You Can Now Take the Metro to O2 Arena Again

The Českomoravská metro station in Prague has reopened after a 14-month reconstruction, allowing access to the O2 Arena ahead of the World Figure Skating Championships.

Prague's Českomoravská metro station on line B has reopened for passengers after being closed for over a year due to extensive renovation work. The reopening was announced by city officials and the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) on a Friday morning, timed to coincide with the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships at the nearby O2 Arena, set to take place from March 24 to 29.

The station has been closed for functionality since January 6, 2025, when trains could only pass through the station. The renovation project, which originally was expected to take about a year, extended beyond schedule because the support structures were found to be in worse condition than anticipated. This led to several weekend disruptions between the Florenc and Vysočanská stations, during which original Soviet escalators were replaced, and electrical systems and other facilities were restored to modern standards.

As part of the renovation, the original ceramic tiles have been replaced with designer glass panels featuring bubbles created by designer Maxim Velčovský. The project also included efforts to repair water leaks, ensuring the renewed station offers enhanced safety and accessibility. The Českomoravská station first opened its doors on November 22, 1990, when line B was extended from Florenc, making it a critical transport hub over the years in Prague's public transportation system.
