V. Čmilytė-Nielsen on US Sanctions Lifted on Belarus: Bad News for Us and the Entire NATO Eastern Flank
Lithuanian politician V. Čmilytė-Nielsen criticized the recent U.S. decision to lift sanctions on Belarus, stating it poses a threat to NATO's eastern flank.
V. Čmilytė-Nielsen, the leader of the Liberal Movement party, expressed concern over the recent decision by the United States to lift sanctions on Belarus, stating it represents strategically bad news for Lithuania and the entire NATO eastern flank. Speaking on Žinių radijuje, she emphasized that the U.S. appears to be pursuing a bilateral path with Belarus, engaging with President Alexander Lukashenko's regime potentially leading to the release of political prisoners. However, she insisted that this should not affect Lithuania's stance regarding sanctions, as the country adheres to European Union decisions.
