Sheinbaum asks bankers to increase financing

President Claudia Sheinbaum urged bankers to boost credit to support a new investment law for infrastructure.

Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, addressed the country's bankers, urging them to increase credit availability to complement her government's new investment law initiative aimed at enhancing infrastructure development. She emphasized that the government is proactive in facilitating investment, unveiling a new proposal submitted to Congress called the Law for the Promotion of Investment in Strategic Infrastructure for Sustainable Development. This initiative is positioned as a strategic move to bolster the country’s infrastructure by improving investment financing processes.

During the inauguration of the 89th Banking Convention, Sheinbaum highlighted the proposed law's objective, which includes establishing bodies for the assessment and prioritization of infrastructure projects. Furthermore, she pointed out that the law will provide innovative financial instruments and regulatory frameworks aimed at fostering a conducive environment for both public and private investments. The full realization of these initiatives is crucial for modernizing Mexico's infrastructure, which requires significant financial backing from both sectors.

Additionally, the proposed mechanism includes plans to boost energy generation capacity by an additional 30,000 megawatts by 2030, ensuring the stability and growth of the energy sector. Sheinbaum's call to bankers reflects a broader aim to align financial institutions with governmental infrastructure goals, which are vital for Mexico's socio-economic development and national progress in the coming years.
