Out of IPL, stuck in PSL too, a break imposed on Bangladeshi players
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to seek government approval before sending players to the Pakistan Super League due to security concerns amid rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have started to affect cricket, prompting the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to take significant action regarding its players' participation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The BCB has emphasized that, given the current circumstances, they will require government permission to send players to Pakistan. The PSL is scheduled to take place from March 26 to May 3, and the board's decision underlines the seriousness of the security considerations involved in this situation.
BCB's cricket operations chairman, Nazmul Abedin, highlighted that under normal conditions, players would typically receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for participation. However, he indicated that the existing situation is notably different, and they will consult the government to assess whether it is safe for players to travel to Pakistan. This decision reflects the broader implications of international relations on sports and the careful consideration required when players' safety is at stake.
Initially, six Bangladeshi players, including Mustafizur Rahman and Parvez Hossain Imon, had already received NOCs to participate in the PSL. Nonetheless, BCB's latest stance makes it clear that these certificates are not definitive, revealing the uncertainty and heightened scrutiny players now face amid geopolitical tensions. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this will impact the participation of Bangladeshi players in the upcoming league, illustrating the intricate relationship between sports and international affairs.
