Riku's passport dropped between the door – This saved him at the airport
Finnish sprinter Riku Illukka's journey to Poland nearly came to a halt when he lost his passport just before his flight, but he managed to secure a temporary passport at Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
Riku Illukka, a 26-year-old Finnish sprinter from Jyväskylä, faced a serious complication before his trip to Poland for the World Indoor Athletics Championships. Just as he was heading to the Helsinki airport, his passport slipped between the car door, and unbeknownst to him, the car was en route to Tampere with his passport still inside. He only realized the mistake too late, leaving him without his passport on the day of his flight.
Fortunately, Illukka was able to quickly resolve the dilemma by obtaining a temporary passport at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The process took around ten minutes and cost approximately 100 euros. Temporary passports can be issued for special reasons, and they are valid only for the duration necessary for travel. In this case, after the issuance of the temporary document, Illukka's previous passport would be invalidated.
Illukka's situation highlights the importance of having a contingency plan for travelers and raises awareness about the processes in place for emergencies like lost passports. With his temporary passport secured, Illukka is now set to travel to Toruń to compete in the championships, where he aims for success in his athletic career.
