This approval comes amid discussions regarding whether such a coin could violate long-standing American traditions concerning the portrayal of government officials. The coin aims to honor the nation’s 250th anniversary, showcasing Trump with his fists clenched on a table, adorned with a serious expression; the reverse side features an eagle.

This will not be the first time Trump’s image is set to appear on currency. The government is planning at least three coins featuring Trump, with one, valued at $1, intended for circulation. The unanimous vote by the commission, which serves as an advisory body on design matters for federal agencies, reflects a significant endorsement of the design despite historical objections raised by the founding fathers of the United States.

Historically, many of the founding figures, including George Washington, expressed strong disapproval of measures that might elevate the status of government leaders to that of royalty, which included their portrayal on national currency.
