Castle and Museum of the '900, ticket doubles to 10 euros
Entry fees for several museums in Milan are set to rise, with tickets for the Sforza Castle Museums and the Museum of the 20th Century increasing to 10 euros beginning May 10.
The city of Milan has approved new entry fees for its civic museums, which will come into effect on May 10. The standard ticket price for the Museo del Castello Sforzesco, Museum of the 20th Century, and Museum of Natural History will double to 10 euros. Additionally, the entrance fee for the Civic Aquarium and the Gallery of Modern Art will increase from 5 to 8 euros, while the Archaeological Museum will remain at 5 euros. These changes follow a city council decision made approximately two months prior.
Moreover, the local government will introduce a 5-euro charge for access to previously free permanent collections at the Mudec-Museum of Cultures, the Museum of the Risorgimento, and Palazzo Morando, with this change expected to be implemented "by 2026" once necessary infrastructure has been established. In contrast, the Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano will remain free of charge until renovations are completed, indicating that while some attractions will become costlier, others will preserve free access in the interim.
This adjustment in ticket pricing reflects the administration's strategy to manage museum finances and possibly fund essential improvements and operational costs. The reaction from the public and local stakeholders regarding these increases will be decisive for ongoing cultural policy, especially given the economic challenges many residents face.
